R Meadow Substack Highlights #9 - Highlighting Steven Hanchett
Writers are readers first. R Meadow Substack Highlights
Writers are readers first. We may relate to specific words or topics, but judge content by whether it lives up to what caught the eye. R Meadow Highlights was launched to highlight word seed treasures worth exploring and a second read. Each highlight here grabbed attention and then resonated in some way. I hope you find new favorites to follow, like, or subscribe to through these highlights!
R Meadow Substack Highlights #9 - Highlighting Steven Hanchett
This week’s highlighted Substack writer is Steven Hanchett at First Light. His daily devotional posts are short and to the point. The Saturday edition contains stories from life and per his words, “Sometimes there is a “moral to the story,” and sometimes they are just stories.”
From his profile and About page: Steven Hanchett
“Husband, father, grandfather, writer, pastor, trainer of leaders,”
Grab a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and take a moment to read Substack writer Steven Hanchett at First Light. I look forward to his daily thoughts for a quick boost to the day or a straight to the heart and soul point.
“If we are not shaped by the truth, the world will shape us instead.”
“The way we can picture this is to think of a child holding their father’s hand. Yes, the child is truly holding on. But if the child stumbles, it is not the child’s strength that prevents the fall. It is the father’s grip that keeps the child upright.”
“Jesus took our place in judgment. He didn’t merely pull us out of it. He stepped into it by going to the cross. He took the full weight of the fire of God’s wrath on Himself in our place. ”
“So, for just a brief moment we had cell service. And my phone blew up, downloading way more text messages than I cared to read. But I also had a voice mail from Mom. So, I thought I should probably call her back. I did and she was wondering if we were home.”

Post title updated to include the writer in the title of the highlight.
Now that the focus of the highlights has shifted to the writer instead of a post, it makes sense to go ahead and include the writer's name in the title.
In the process of updating other Highlight titles.
